Brother Smith became a Master Mason at Claybank Lodge, No. 908, in Ozark. He belongs to the Scottish Rite Bodies in Dothan, was invested with the rank and decoration of a Knight Commander of the Court of Honor in 1995 and coroneted a 33° Inspector General Honorary in 1999. On February 3, 2011, Illustrious James Arthur Smith, 33°, was appointed as Deputy of the Supreme Council in the Orient of Alabama and crowned an SGIG on August 25, 2013.
